According to police, a gunman who was suspected of killing eight people in the Illinois city of Joliet has passed away following a run-in with law officers.
Romeo Nance, 23, is thought to have shot himself to death during the altercation in the vicinity of Natalia, Texas, according to Joliet police. He is believed to have killed eight people in various Joliet locales.
Police discovered seven of the victims on Monday in two adjoining houses. On Sunday, the eighth was discovered early.
Authorities warned that the suspect “should be regarded as armed and dangerous” after the bodies were discovered, sparking a manhunt for him.
The Joliet Police Department released a statement stating that Mr. Nance was found by US Marshals close to Natalia on Monday at about 20:30 local time (2:30 GMT on Tuesday). At a news conference earlier, Joliet police chief Bill Evans stated that at 12:04 local time on Monday, authorities received reports of multiple fatal shootings.
Officers found seven bodies when they got to the West Acres Road scene. As per Dan Jungles, deputy head of the Will County Sheriff’s office, five were discovered in one house and two in the other. It is thought that they were all related to one another. Although the suspect’s motivation for the attack was first unclear, it is thought that they were acquainted with the victims.
Authorities also said that they had received reports of two shootings that had occurred in Joliet a day earlier at other places. They claimed to have seen a car in both locations that had the same license plate as the one connected to the finding of the seven victims on Monday.
According to investigators, a 28-year-old male was shot in the head during one of the incidents and died as a result. Police identified him as Toyosi Bakare, a Nigerian national who had spent the previous three years residing in the US.
