Susan T. Buffett, Warren Buffett’s wife, died of a stroke in 2014 while visiting friends in Cody, Wyoming, according to Buffett’s firm.

Buffett, the chairman of Omaha-based Berkshire Hathaway Inc. and a powerful investor, was with his wife at the time of her death, according to the firm.

Susan Buffett was admitted to West Park Hospital in Cody on Wednesday night and died early Thursday morning, according to Laurie Sparr, a spokeswoman for the facility.

Susan Buffett, 72, was a Berkshire director who was set to inherit her husband’s fortune. Buffett has stated that when he dies, his $42.9 billion in Berkshire stock will go to his wife and subsequently to a foundation.

Buffett and his wife, who lives in Omaha, married in 1952 and have lived apart for many years.

They traveled and spent time together a lot, even though she spent most of her time in San Francisco.

Susan Buffett was diagnosed with oral cancer last October, and Warren and Susan Buffett revealed this week that they had donated $6 million to five medical specialists in California who supervised her care.
