Members of the Majority Caucus have received a rallying cry from former Majority Leader Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, asking them to provide the incoming leadership with the same degree of support and assistance that characterized his time as Majority Leader.
After informing the caucus of his decision on Wednesday, February 21, 2024, he formally announced his resignation in Parliament on Friday, February 23.
Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu urged the majority of members to support the new leadership to guarantee the effective execution of the governance agenda, stressing the value of unity among them.
“To effectively pursue the millennium agenda of governance, I will implore my colleagues to extend the same assistance and support to my successor. I thank my colleagues for always being there for me, the party, and the government.”
As he acknowledged the group efforts that improved the standing of the Ghanaian Parliament, he also took a moment to express his gratitude for the cooperation and collaboration that the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, and the entire House had shared during his leadership.
“Mr. Speaker, Let me take this opportunity to thank you for the cooperation and collaboration that have existed between me and you throughout the time that our paths have crossed here in Parliament, and we have worked together to elevate the status of the Ghanaian Parliament in many endeavors, particularly since you assumed the position of Speaker of Parliament.
“Let me not only thank my caucus but the entire membership, officers, and men of this House who have all played their part to ensure that we raised the flag of Ghana.”
Following his resignation, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu became chairman of the NPP’s manifesto committee, and Alexander Afenyo-Markin was named the new majority leader.
