Super Bowl hero Ken Bowman dies at 81: Family and funeral arrangements

Ken Bowman, who played center for the Green Bay Packers from 1964 to 1973 and was a part of three consecutive championship teams, unexpectedly passed away at the age of 81.

The Packers revealed on Tuesday that Bowman passed away in Oro Valley, Arizona, on Wednesday of last week. Although the cause of death was not disclosed by the organization, Bowman’s wife, Roseann, was quoted in the Packers statement as stating that he passed away naturally.

In 1965, the year before the first Super Bowl, Bowman was a member of the Packers’ NFL title-winning team. He also played on the winning teams of the Super Bowls the following two seasons.

The most famous moment of his career was probably when he snapped the ball to Bart Starr and blocked the Hall of Fame quarterback’s game-winning 1-yard touchdown sneak in the 1967 NFL championship game known as the “Ice Bowl,” which saw the Packers defeat the Dallas Cowboys 21-17 despite a kickoff temperature of minus-13 degrees Fahrenheit.
