UK-based Ghanaian musician Stormzy and his wife Maya Jama have announced their second separation in a heartfelt message shared on Maya Jama’s Instagram stories. The Love Island presenter confirmed the break-up on July 17, expressing that they will always remain friends.
The couple first met in 2014 and after five years together, they decided to part ways, only to rekindle their romance in August 2023. Unfortunately, their attempts to reconcile did not succeed, leading them to officially call it quits.
In their statement, Maya and Stormzy shared, “We fell madly in love in 2014, broke up in 2019, and then spent five years manoeuvring life apart. We decided to try for the final time in August 2023, and we’ve spent this past year trying our best to make it work; however, we recently decided to call it quits.”
The couple reflected on their journey together, stating, “We were 21 and 20 when we first met—both at the beginning of our careers—and spent five years growing together and then five years growing separately.” Despite the end of their romantic relationship, they emphasized that they still have immense respect and care for each other, and will always remain friends.
Maya and Stormzy acknowledged that the decision to go public with their separation may seem “dramatic,” but they opted to do so to prevent any unnecessary speculation or rumors. They urged their fans and supporters to give them space to move on gracefully, expressing gratitude for the love they have received.
The couple concluded their statement by thanking their fans and followers for their support, noting that it has been a beautiful journey. They requested understanding and respect as they navigate this new chapter in their lives.
