Steven Gregory Stayner was a well-known abduction victim in the United States who was taken when he was a child but managed to escape after seven years.
On April 18, 1965, he was born to Delbert Stayner and Kay Stayner in Merced, California, in the United States.
Of his parents’ five children, he was the third. When Steven Stayner was just 7 years old, Kenneth Parnell, a child molester, abducted him in Merced, California, on December 4, 1972. He was taken hostage by the assailant in Mariposa County, California, which is located 38 miles (61 km) away, and he then moved to Mendocino County, California.

Steven struggled to acclimate to life after the kidnapping. He was having trouble at school and with the law, but when he met Jody Edmondson, things started to change. He was seduced. After a year of dating, they were wed in June 1985.
Ashley was born to them during their four years of marriage, then Steven Jr.
Ashley was three years old and Steven Jr. was two years old at the time of Steven’s death. They lacked many recollections of their father and learned about his life in the same way that the majority of people do: through the media.
