Today, his family sadly announced the DJ’s passing on BBC Radio 2. “We announce the passing of our beloved Steve Wright with deep sorrow and profound regret,” they said in a heartfelt statement. In addition to his son Tom and daughter Lucy, Steve also leaves behind his brother Laurence and father Richard.

“Also, much-loved close friends and colleagues, and millions of devoted radio listeners who had the good fortune and great pleasure of allowing Steve into their daily lives as one of the UK’s most enduring and popular radio personalities.”

Although Steve’s cause of death is still unknown, he is survived by his father Richard, brother Laurence, and children Tom and Lucy.

We are thinking of Steve’s family and will sincerely miss him.”

Helen Thomas, the head of Radio 2, paid tribute to Steve and remembered his remarkable career. “We all loved Steve because he was the greatest at realizing the friendship and camaraderie that radio creates,” she exclaimed.
