Sterling Lord was the agent who represented Jimmy Breslin, Art Buchwald, Lawrence Ferlinghetti, Gordon Parks, and, most notably, Jack Kerouac.

He died on Saturday in Ocala, Florida.

Sterling Lord cause of death

His daughter verified his death at the age of 102. There was no explanation.

Lord represented a long list of literary greats, including Frank Deford, David Wise, Nicolas Pileggi, Delores Kearns Goodwin, Joe McGinniss, Pete Gent, Pete Axthelm, and others.

But it seems probable that Kerouac’s book, which sold for $1,000 after four years of trying, will be his lasting legacy. It went on to sell over 5 million copies.

He earned an English degree from Grinnell College in Iowa before joining the Army and being transferred to Europe at the end of WWII. He contributed to the monthly magazine of the military periodical Stars and Stripes, which he temporarily took private after the Army discontinued publishing in 1948. He relocated to New York after the magazine folded in 1949.

Before becoming a literary agent, Lord worked at various publications, including True and Cosmopolitan. His preferences were broad, and he was noted for bringing in enormous sums of money for his roster.

Sterling Lord wife and children

Lord had four marriages and four divorces. Rebecca Lord, his sole immediate survivor, is his only survivor.

Sterling Lord net worth

Lord was worth 5 million dollars at the time he died.

Sterling Lord funeral

His funeral is yet to be held.
