Stephen Lang was born on July 11, 1952, in New York City, U.S. as the youngest child of Theresa and Eugene Lang. His father was a prominent entrepreneur and philanthropist who founded REFAC Technology Development Corporation in 1951.
On his mother’s side, he is of Catholic of German and Irish descent, and on his father’s side, he is Jewish. In addition, his paternal grandparents were Jewish emigrants from Hungary and Russia.
Lang has two siblings, a sister named Jane and a brother named David. His brother David, served as an executive at REFAC, their father’s company. His sister Jane is an attorney and activist who has been characterized as a neighborhood activist. She has established herself as the primary force responsible for revitalizing a run-down area of Washington, D.C.
