After a protracted fight with brain cancer, Mean Girls on Broadway cast member Stephanie Bissonnette has passed on at a young age of 32.
The news of her passing was revealed by the program on Sunday through Twitter: As the Mean Girls community laments Stephanie Bissonnette’s passing, “Our hearts are devastated.”
In addition, Stephanie created choirs and taught dancing.
When Mean Girls the Broadway musical was still in development, she went to audition and was cast as Dawn.
Following graduation from Point Park University’s Conservatory of the Performing Arts, Bissonnette worked as a performer for Royal Caribbean.
She relocated to New York after graduating and began teaching and choreographing there.
For the song Never Comin’ Down, Stephanie made an appearance in a Keith Urban music video.
She created the dance performances for Shakespeare Theatre Company, The Muny, Riverside Theatre, Seven Angels Theatre, and others. She participated in the Ensemble documentary, which examined Broadway dancers during the 2020–19 Covid–19 strike.
Cause of death
Bissonnette sought medical attention after experiencing a “two-second twinge” while performing a Mean Girls dance move, and was later identified as having medulloblastoma, a malignant brain tumor.
She underwent surgery in February 2019 and, according to SurvivorNet, was able to return to the program in October following treatment and recuperation. Later, she appeared in a documentary that examined the impact of Covid shutdowns on Broadway.
