She was born Colette Suzanne Jeannine Dacheville in Versailles – Stéphane Audran was the stage name she adopted later. Stéphane was married to the actor Jean-Louis Trintignant from 1954 to 1956
Audran made her cinematic debut in Le Jeu de la Nuit (1957), opposite future film director Maurice Pialat, and went on to win a French César Award for Best Supporting Actress for Violette Nozière (1978) and a British Film Academy Award for her role in Just Before Nightfall (1979).
After a prolonged illness, Stéphane Audran died early on March 27, 2018. Her son Thomas stated that his mother had been in the hospital for ten days before returning home and dying around 2 AM Her son, actor Thomas Chabrol, is her only surviving child.
