Secretary-General and Chief Executive of Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU), Prof. Colin Riordan, is advocating for a collaborative effort between the government, universities, industries, and civil societies to develop a robust e-learning system in Ghana. At the 2nd E-learning International Conference during E-Learning Week 2024, Prof. Riordan stressed the importance of creating a strategy for e-learning through what he called the quadruple helix – a combination of government, universities, industry, and civil society.
In his address, Prof. Riordan emphasized the need to build the e-learning system from the ground up and to constantly evaluate progress, make necessary changes, and move forward. Deputy Education Minister, Rev. Ntim Fordjour, also expressed the government’s commitment to supporting the enhancement of e-learning in Ghana.
The theme of the E-learning International Conference, “Fostering excellence in e-learning across diverse disciplines with special consideration on progress, challenges, and prospects,” reflected the focus of the discussions. Director of the KNUST E-learning Centre, Prof. Eric Appau Asante, expressed optimism that the outcomes of the conference would translate into tangible educational practices and actionable plans.
Furthermore, KNUST Vice-chancellor, Prof. Mrs. Rita Akosua Dickson, highlighted the importance of collaboration in enhancing e-examination strategies and ensuring that technological advancements benefit all fields of education. She emphasized the need for cross-disciplinary collaboration to ensure that no one is left behind in the journey towards improved e-learning practices.
The conference provided a platform for stakeholders to exchange ideas, share insights, and explore opportunities for advancing e-learning in Ghana. With a collective effort from government, universities, industries, and civil societies, the vision of a thriving e-learning system in the country can be realized.
