North Tongu MP Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has refuted claims of having a personal grudge against Minister for Food and Agriculture Bryan Acheampong over the purchase of SSNIT’s 60 percent stake in four hotels. Ablakwa clarified that his petition is based on his belief that public officials should not be involved in acquiring state assets due to their access to insider information.
During an interview on Joy FM, Ablakwa emphasized his principled stand against public officials buying state assets, citing a past incident involving the late Jake Obetsebi Lamptey. He recounted taking legal action against Lamptey over the purchase of his official residence, highlighting the need to prevent public officials from exploiting their positions for personal gain.
Ablakwa’s petition to CHRAJ aims to halt the sale of six SSNIT-owned hotels to the minister, including Labadi Beach Hotel, La Palm Royal Beach Resort, Elmina Beach Resort, Ridge Royal Hotel, Busua Beach Resort, and Trust Lodge Hotel. SSNIT clarified that the sale is part of a strategy to attract a strategic investor for the hotels to enhance efficiency, profitability, and shareholder value.
CHRAJ has acknowledged Ablakwa’s petition and promised to respond in due course. The Commission’s letter to Ablakwa indicated their commitment to addressing the concerns raised and taking appropriate action. Stay tuned for further updates on this developing story.
