Sreela Majumdar, a celebrated Bengali actress best known for her parts in mainstream and “parallel” film, lost her fight with cancer on Saturday afternoon and passed away at the age of 65.
Son Sohail Abdi and his journalist and columnist husband S.N.M. Abdi survive the actress.
Majumdar had been hospitalized earlier this month, according to her husband, who told IANS that she had been battling cancer for the previous three years. That being said, on Saturday she was returned home, where she passed away. Majumdar was a key player in several classic films that the late Mrinal Sen directed.
