The 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Cote d’Ivoire will be the subject of an investigation by the Ministry of Youth and Sports regarding the Black Stars’ poor performance.
In collaboration with national team stakeholders, a comprehensive strategy will be developed to rejuvenate the national senior men’s soccer team, as per a statement released by the Ministry of Youth and Sports on January 25.
The ministry conveyed its condolences to the people of Ghana and football enthusiasts for their disappointment over the team’s failure to advance to the Round of 16 due to losses to Cape Verde and 2-2 draws with Egypt and Mozambique.
The statement emphasized initiatives to develop a positive environment, invest in team building, and put in place performance-based incentive schemes. Additionally, it restated the government’s continued backing of the national teams, which includes the Black Stars.
However, the ministry also admitted that fundamental structural and systemic problems in the football ecosystem contributed to the team’s poor performance. They committed to working to create a football environment that aligns with national objectives.
The ministry asked people to be understanding and supportive, stressing that together they can rebuild and revitalize Ghanaian football’s future.
It is expected that the strategy plan will be released to the public in the coming days. Actions to address the team’s underlying problems and improve their performance in the next competitions are expected to be included.
