The Ghana Police Service has granted permission to a group of sports journalists to protest the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Ghana Football Association (GFA) about the declining quality of football in Ghana.

Citi Sports has confirmed that the demonstration route will be announced in an official statement by the Ghana Police Service at 14:00 GMT today.

Prominent sportswriters Patrick Osei Agyemang, Saddick Adams, and Veronica Commey are among the group; Commey expressed her dissatisfaction with Ghanaian football on Citi FM’s Sports Panorama. (To view the video, click the highlighted text.)

The protest, which is intended to express dissatisfaction with Ghana’s football situation, is scheduled for Wednesday, February 14 in the nation’s capital, Accra.

According to Saddick Adams, the event is “a peaceful walk to present a petition,” and the country’s passion—football—is in danger of dying. He claims that “there is no hate” but rather “positive anger” to change the current situation.

There will be a protest after Ghana’s 2023 AFCON in Cote D’Ivoire, where the Black Stars lost all three of their games and were eliminated in the first round.

Ghana has lost two straight AFCONs in the group stage; their 2021 AFCON performance, where they were only able to secure a point, was their worst ever.
