Spencer James Cox, an American lawyer and politician, was born on July 11, 1975. He has been Utah’s 18th governor since 2021.
He was the seventh lieutenant governor of Utah from 2013 until 2021 and a moderate Republican. Cox was voted to the city council in Fairview, Utah, where he currently resides and was raised, in 2004. In 2005, he was elected mayor.
He was chosen to serve as a county commissioner for Sanpete County in 2008. In 2012, he won a seat in the Utah House of Representatives. Cox was chosen by Governor Gary Herbert in October 2013 to succeed Greg Bell as lieutenant governor, and the Utah State Senate overwhelmingly approved his appointment. Cox served as Herbert’s running companion in 2016 and won the position of lieutenant governor.
