The Special Prosecutor, Kissi Agyebeng, has called for the office to be abolished, calling it unjustified.

He claims that throughout time, these opponents have neglected to recognize the office’s efficacy and performance. These statements were made by Mr. Agyebeng on Tuesday during a roundtable discussion.

We frequently receive requests from influential quarters advocating for the elimination of the OSP due to its lack of value. On another note, there have been and continue to be attempts to unfairly and unjustly denigrate the office and its senior officers, despite strong opposition and pushback.

He said, “A close examination of the reasons for the calls to do away with the OSP suggests that they were made out of many of the teething challenges facing the establishment of the office and that they were made without reference to the actual performance of the office in the six years of existence.”

In recent times, the office has been under pressure over the inability to successfully prosecute a single case since its establishment.

The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, asserted that the creation of the office was an act in futility, stressing that it would not achieve any results in the fight against corruption.

However, according to Inusah Fuseini, a former MP for Tamale Central, the office’s special purpose is to combat corruption and offenses related to it. He believes that the question of whether or not the office benefits the State ought never to be raised.
