Sope Aluko, a Nigerian-born British-American actress, was born on July 5, 1975.
Aluko is a Nigerian native. Her father was in the diplomatic service, therefore she was reared in the United Kingdom and traveled much. She eventually began attending boarding school at the age of 10 and studied in the United Kingdom, where she grew up and obtained her master’s degree in marketing.
Sope had tried theater before, but her parents were not fans. She went to America for a vacation and “accidentally” met her future husband. She remained in Corporate America for fifteen years.
After her parents died, she chose to resume her acting career. Sope explained her origins “When I first started in this field, people would tell me, “I adore your accent, but…” I just didn’t believe in myself enough. I began taking lessons to attempt to eliminate my accent. I just shouted NO one day because this is who I am. If it doesn’t work, perhaps I’m not cut out for this.
