Sonya Eddy, an actor in General Hospital, passed away at the age of 55, according to her close friend Octavia Spencer.
Oscar winner Octavia, 52, shared a touching photo of the actress on Tuesday and lamented the death of her “creative angel.”
She wrote: ‘My friend @sonyaeddy passed away last night. The world lost another creative angel. Her legions of @generalhospitalabc fans will miss her.
‘My thoughts and prayers are with her loved ones, friends, and fans!’
Eddy played the strict head nurse Epiphany Johnson on General Hospital beginning in 2006. She was Stan Johnson’s mother.
In her current role, she made an appearance in 543 episodes. She was a licensed vocational nurse, therefore the position was particularly meaningful to her.
California’s Concord is where Eddy was born. She obtained her B.A. in 1992 while majoring in theatre and dance at the University of California, Davis.
In 1990, she made her stage debut in Ruby Dee’s play Zora Is My Name. She also performed on stage in plays including Bloody Mary in South Pacific and The Comedy of Errors.
