In a shocking revelation, a member of the Asante Kotoko circles, Okocha, has accused some players of the team of frequenting a bar before their games.
This accusation comes at a time when Kotoko is experiencing a rough patch in the 2023/24 Ghana Premier League, having lost five out of their last six games.
According to Okocha, five players were spotted at the ‘Kiss Kiss’ bar in Ejisu on the eve of their match against Nsoatreman. Despite their late-night outing, the game, which took place at the Baba Yara Stadium, ended in a disappointing 2-1 defeat for Kotoko.
Speaking on Angel FM Kumasi 96.1 FM, Okocha expressed his disappointment, stating, “What they are doing in Ejisu at the Kiss Kiss spot they should stop going there.” He went on to claim that he has photographic evidence of the players at the bar and challenged them to deny his allegations.
“I have five players on Tuesday they were there drinking. I have the pictures; there is a particular player I was surprised he is part of them. Food is not sold there, only alcohol. If they dare me, they should come out and say I am lying,” Okocha said.
The disgruntled member of the Kotoko circles also criticized the pampering of the players, suggesting that those who cannot handle the pressure of playing for the team should leave. He highlighted an instance where the team was taken to Sunyani to sleep before a game in Bechem, only to lose to Nsoatreman after coming straight from Nsoatre without rest.
“If you know you can’t play for Kotoko, stop pack your bags and go. We pamper them too much,” Okocha remarked.
As the accusations continue to swirl around the team, it remains to be seen how Asante Kotoko will address the alleged off-field antics of some of their players and turn their season around.
