A 36-year-old military commander is in court in Accra on charges of allegedly obtaining GHC136,000 from 22 individuals on the promise that they would be recruited into Ghana’s security services.
Charged with defrauding by false pretenses, Clement Ayomah entered a not guilty plea. The prosecution informed the court that Ayomah had subsequently returned GHC40,000.
Mrs. Afia Owusua Appiah, the court’s presider, granted Ayomah GHC110,000 in bail with two sureties, citing justification. The date of the postponement of the matter is February 29, 2024.
The prosecution has been instructed by the court to submit their disclosures. George Amoako Ofori was a trader and a resident of Darkuman in Accra, according to the prosecution, which was led by Chief Inspector Wisdom Alorwu.
The defendant dwells in Accra’s Burma Camp. Ayomah informed the complainant that he has “many protocol slots” in the security services, according to the prosecutor.
According to the prosecution, the accused individual obtained GHC136,000 from the complainant in order to enlist 12 people in the Ghanaian Armed Forces, 7 in the Ghana Police Service, and 3 in the Ghana Immigration Service.
However, it claimed that the accused broke his word and began to play hide-and-seek with the complainant. The accused was taken into custody after a report was filed against him in March 2023, according to the prosecution.
The accused acknowledged receiving GHC136,000 from the complainant, according to the prosecutor, and stated that a Senior Officer in the Ghana Armed Force had received some of the money.
But in order to make inquiries easier, the accused person omitted the Senior officer’s name. The prosecution further stated that the accused had subsequently reimbursed GHC $40,000.
