
Skip Parsons, a legendary local jazz leader, dies at the age of 86.
George Skip Parsons, the Capital Region’s leading Dixieland jazz evangelist over a 65-year career as a bandleader and clarinetist who explored the moody, playful, squealing, and celebratory sides of his preferred instrument, died Thursday.
He was 86 years old and had been in a coma since Monday, April 18 2022 after suffering a stroke.
After the stroke’s toll on his brain became apparent, he was transferred to hospice care at St. Peter’s Hospital on Thursday(April 21, 2022) afternoon, where he died a few hours later.
