Sixteen individuals have tragically lost their lives, and another 28 individuals are currently missing after a boat carrying 77 people capsized off the coast of Djibouti.

This marks the second devastating incident of its kind within a two-week period, as reported by the United Nations migration agency.

Among the occupants of the boat were children, according to the International Organization for Migration (IOM), which shared this heartbreaking news on social media. The IOM’s Djiboutian office has been actively involved in assisting with rescue efforts following this tragic event.

Sadly, just two weeks ago, another deadly shipwreck occurred off the Djibouti coast, resulting in the loss of at least 38 lives, including children. This recent incident further highlights the dangers and risks faced by migrants attempting perilous sea journeys in search of better opportunities.

The IOM and other humanitarian organizations continue to work tirelessly to provide support and assistance to those affected by these tragic events. Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families during this difficult time.
