Sinisa Mihajlovic, a former football player for Yugoslavia, Lazio, and Inter Milan as well as a former coach of AC Milan, passed away at the age of 53 after a battle with leukemia.

Mihajlovic, who was still in the dugout at Italian side Bologna just three months ago, has finally succumbed to his disease after a battle spanning more than three years.

On Friday, he passed away in a hospital in Rome. Mihajlovic was referred to as “the guy who was born twice” in a tribute by the Italian sports publication Gazzetta dello Sport, living two lives before and after his leukemia diagnosis yet maintaining the same warrior spirit.
