After a battle with illness, Sinisa Mihajlovic, a former football player for Yugoslavia, Lazio, and Inter Milan as well as a former coach of AC Milan, passed suddenly at the age of 53.

After a fight spanning more than three years, Mihajlovic, who was still in the bench at Italian team Bologna just three months ago, has ultimately passed away from his condition.

He died on Friday in a hospital in Rome. The Italian sports magazine Gazzetta dello Sport referred to Mihajlovic as “the guy who was born twice” in a tribute because he led two lives before and after his leukemia diagnosis—while retaining the same warrior spirit.
