On Thursday, March 7, 2024, Biraj Adhikari, a senior Sikkim politician and former Hamro Sikkim Party (HSP) spokesperson, passed away at the age of 63 at Central Referral Hospital in Manila.

His hospital admission dates back to February, according to the reports. The loss of HSP’s former leader has left CM inconsolable. In a condolence message, CM expressed their “deep sadness over Shri Biraj Adhikari’s passing this morning at Central Referral Hospital-SMIMS, Tadong following a protracted illness.”

As of the time of the demise of Biraj Adhikari, there is no information on the internet pertaining to his wife and children.

As a pillar of the political scene in Sikkim, revered for his unshakable devotion to public service, people’s welfare, and ceaseless efforts on behalf of the people and the state, Shri Adhikari leaves behind a legacy that is defined by these attributes. His passing creates a huge vacuum in the political landscape of the state and beyond, CM continued.

“My deepest sympathies are with his family and friends during this time of loss. He went on, “I pray that the departed soul rests in eternal peace.”

For health reasons, Biraj Adhikari had stepped down from active politics. The Sikkim Pradesh Congress Committee’s general secretary was Biraj Adhikari (SPCC).

Nar Bahadur Bhandari led the Indian National Congress (INC) unit in Sikkim. Adhikari ran unsuccessfully for the INC’s single Lok Sabha seat from Sikkim in 2004 against the SDF candidate.
