On June 16, 1980, actress Sibel Kekilli was born in Germany. Kekilli was raised by a Turkish-American family in Heilbronn. Her parents moved to Germany in 1977 from Turkey, and Kekilli regarded them as welcoming and moderately forward-thinking.
Over the course of six months in 2001–2002, Kekilli appeared in a number of pornographic films under the direction of various filmmakers, including Josef Baumberger and Harry S. Morgan. Dilara was the name she went by.
Sibel Kekilli gained fame after starring in the 2004 film Head-On. Due to her performances in Head-On and When We Leave (2010), she was awarded two Lolas, the highest accolade in the German film industry.
In the 2006 Turkish coup d’état movie Home Coming (Eve Dönüş), Kekilli played the wife of a man who was wrongfully abducted and tortured. She received the Best Actress prize at the 2006 Antalya Golden Orange Film Festival as a result of her depiction.
In the 2010 season of HBO’s Game of Thrones, which is based on George R. R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire books, Kekilli was given the role of Shae. She rose to fame in 2011 as a result of her portrayal as Shae in the HBO series Game of Thrones.
