SHS science students will no longer read Core Math and Integrated Science – NaCCA

According to the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NaCCA), Senior High School students who choose elective science courses will no longer be required to take Core Mathematics and Integrated Science. This change will take effect for the 2024–2025 academic year.

The NaCCA’s Director General, Professor Edward Appiah, emphasized that this change is a component of a larger curriculum improvement that aims to strengthen our educational system.

He gave JoyNews an explanation of this shift on February 6 by pointing out that students who specialize in science already study science and mathematics in great detail. Therefore, they do not need to take these extra courses again.

Professor Appiah explained that this change is the outcome of a curriculum reevaluation, which has reinforced the junior high school scientific curriculum.

Due to various issues with the junior high school science curriculum, students were previously required to study Integrated Science in Senior High School. But now that the curriculum has been improved, this repetition is no longer necessary.

This modification represents a step in the right direction toward customizing education to meet the requirements of students and maximize their learning opportunities.
