NBC’s Chicago PD series has returned for its 11th season, allowing viewers to continue following the actions of police officers in the windy city. However, some fan-favorite characters may be making their final appearances on the cop drama as a few actors have decided to quit the series.
Chicago PD, created by Dick Wolf and Matt Olmstead, premiered in January 2014 as a mid-season replacement for Chicago Fire. The show has recently been renewed for a 12th season and focuses on the uniformed patrol officers and the Intelligence Unit of the 21st District of the Chicago Police Department as they combat organized crime, drug trafficking, and high-profile murders, led by detective sergeant Hank Voight, portrayed by Jason Beghe.
One of the main characters, Hailey Upton, played by Tracy Spiridakos, will be saying goodbye to the show after seven seasons. Upton, a homicide detective who joined the squad in season four, replaced Erin Lindsay and married Lindsay’s ex, Jay Halstead, played by Jesse Lee Soffer. Spiridakos originally started as a recurring character before being promoted to the main cast in season five.
As the season finale approaches, fans are speculating on how detective Upton will be written off the show. Some theories suggest she may be forced to move to a new department after breaking a protocol, similar to her predecessor Lindsay, while others believe she may follow her ex-husband Halstead, who is investigating a cartel in Bolivia.
Co-star Jason Beghe expressed his gratitude for Spiridakos’ contributions to the show, stating that she will always be a part of the Chicago PD family. Marina Squerciati, who plays Officer Kim Burgess, shared a heartwarming picture of Spiridakos and LaRoyce Hawkins, known as Officer Kevin Atwater, on set, captioning it with, “Squeezing in all the Tracy hugs we can get.”
Chicago PD airs on Wednesday nights at 10pm ET on NBC as part of a triple threat Wednesday night lineup alongside Chicago Med and Chicago Fire. Fans can catch up on old episodes or stream new ones on Peacock.
