
Shirley Hughes, a novelist and illustrator whose common childhood stories threw a joyful glow across generations of family life, died at the age of 94, according to her family.
Hughes illustrated and wrote 60 books during his 70-year career, winning BookTrust’s inaugural lifetime achievement award in 2015.
She was also voted the most popular winner of the Kate Greenaway medal for illustration in the first 50 years for her picture book Dogger, which told the story of a little boy who is heartbroken when his beloved toy dog turns up at a jumble sale.
