Shirley Rose Eikhard, a Canadian singer-songwriter, lived from 7 November 1955 to 15 December 2022.

She had some success as a solo performer in Canada, but her biggest success in Canada and abroad came from writing songs for other musicians, most notably Bonnie Raitt’s 1991 smash song “Something to Talk About.”

Eikhard successfully applied for the Songwriter’s Workshop at the 1969 Mariposa Folk Festival at the age of 13, following her maiden performance in Cobourg.

There, she performed with Joni Mitchell, Ian & Sylvia, and Bruce Cockburn. When she was 15 years old, Anne Murray recorded her song “It Takes Time,” which went on to become a Canadian success. Kim Carnes recorded the song as well for her 1971 album Rest on Me.
