Sheila Pistorius cause of death: What happened to Oscar Pistorius’ mother?
She died at the age of 42, when Oscar was 15, after a bad response to drugs after being misdiagnosed with hepatitis.
Oscar’s legs were amputated when he was 11 months old by Sheila and her husband Henke after he was born without a fibula in either limb.
Before the operation, she penned a letter to her kid with a message he could understand when he was older.
‘The true loser is never the person who crosses the finishing line last,’ it said. The guy who stands on the sidelines is the true loser. The individual who makes no attempt to compete.
Sheila and Henke were urged to amputate before he could walk since it would be less distressing.
Oscar had his first pair of prosthetic legs fitted before the age of two and had mastered them within days.
Oscar was an active athlete who competed in water polo and rugby in high school. He also participated in triathlons, played cricket and tennis, and was an Olympic club wrestler and boxer.
After fracturing his knee playing rugby in June 2003, physicians urged him to take up track running to improve his rehabilitation.
Oscar offers a silent prayer before each race for his mother, who encouraged him to participate in as many sports as possible.
