According to his representative Paul Doyle, Barber passed away on Wednesday at his Kingwood, Texas, home due to medical issues.
According to a statement from the University of Akron Department of Athletics, Barber had been in bad condition for some time after becoming unwell. From 2013 to 2015, he participated in the track and field program as a student-athlete.
Barber leaves behind his brother David, parents Ann and George, as well as a former Canadian pole vaulter and coach.
