Sharon Marley Prendergast, a Jamaican singer, dancer, and curator was born on November 23, 1964.

She is Rita Marley’s biological child, and after the two got married, Bob Marley adopted her. Along with her younger sister and brothers, she was a member of Ziggy Marley and the Melody Makers. She has taken home three Grammys with the band.

The Melody Makers were established at their father Bob Marley’s desire, but it wasn’t until his passing that the group truly found its footing. But they had a similar idea to their father, who wanted to use music to unite people.

Four of Bob Marley’s ten children—vocalist/guitarist Ziggy, drummer/vocalist/guitarist Stephen, vocalist/drummer Cedella, and vocalist/guitarist Sharon—make up the band. Ziggy, her young brother, served as the group’s leader, with Stephen frequently contributing to composition and singing lead.
