On August 28, 1993, Shaquille Olajuwon Mason, an offensive lineman for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers of the National Football League, was born. Mason attended Georgia Tech from 2011 to 2014 before being chosen by the New England Patriots in the fourth round of the 2015 NFL Draft.

On May 2, 2015, Mason was selected by the New England Patriots in the fourth round (131st overall). Mason played in 14 games for the Patriots as a rookie, making 14 starts.

Mason shared time at right guard with rookie Ted Karras despite missing the season’s opening game against the Cardinals due to a broken hand he suffered in the 2016 preseason. Since then, he has started at right guard for the Patriots in every game.

Mason was a member of the New England Patriots squad that won Super Bowl LI on February 5, 2017, defeating the Atlanta Falcons 34-28 in overtime.

Mason started each of the Patriots’ 16 games at right guard in 2017. He was the starting quarterback in Super Bowl LII, but he gave up the strip sack that turned out to be the game’s biggest play. Philadelphia Eagles won 41–33 over the Patriots.
