Disgraced former NFL star OJ Simpson was quietly cremated in Las Vegas following his death from prostate cancer at the age of 76.
The news of his passing comes as a shock to many, as just last week he was said to be “content” and surrounded by family during his final moments.
OJ Simpson’s life was marked by both triumphs and controversies. While he was considered one of the greatest running backs in NFL history and had a successful career in sports commentary after his retirement, he was also famously involved in the trial and controversial acquittal of the murder of his ex-wife Nicole Brown and her friend Ron Goldman.
His lawyer, Malcolm LaVergne, revealed that Simpson’s ashes will be scattered at a secret location and a private memorial service is being planned. LaVergne emphasized that Simpson wouldn’t want anyone to feel sorry for him, as he believed he had a great and happy life despite the challenges he faced.
Simpson’s legacy will forever be intertwined with the infamous trial surrounding the murders of Nicole Brown and Ron Goldman. Despite being acquitted, the controversy surrounding the case followed him until the end of his life. Additionally, Simpson’s later run-ins with the law, including a nine-year prison sentence for armed robbery and kidnapping, further tarnished his reputation.
Now, with his passing, both the Goldman and Brown families are expected to pursue claims against OJ’s estate, as he never paid the $33.5 million settlement ordered by the court.
