Globally recognised Nigerian-American artist, Kehinde Wiley, has refuted the sexual assault allegations brought against him by Ghanaian artist Joseph Awuah-Darko.
While acknowledging a past relationship with Awuah-Darko, Kehinde insisted that it was a consensual and brief affair, denying any involvement in sexual assault.
In response to the accusations, Kehinde termed them as “false” and “not true,” expressing his dismay at being targeted in such a manner. He emphasized his innocence in the matter and requested privacy as he works towards clearing his name.
On the other hand, Joseph Awuah-Darko had accused Kehinde Wiley of sexually assaulting him on two occasions during a dinner event at the Noldor Artist Residency on June 9, 2021. In a detailed Instagram post, Awuah-Darko recounted the incidents, alleging that Wiley had inappropriately groped him in front of another guest while they were heading to the bathroom.
Despite the allegations made by Awuah-Darko, Kehinde Wiley maintains his stance on the matter and vows to prove his innocence. The public is urged to respect the privacy of both parties involved as they navigate through this controversy.
