A team of firefighters in the Eastern Region found themselves in a terrifying situation after their fire engine was involved in an accident while responding to an emergency call on Sunday, July 22.
The incident left seven firefighters injured, who are currently receiving treatment at the Kade Government Hospital and the St. Dominic Catholic Hospital.
The team was on their way to Otwenkwanta following an emergency call about a fuel tanker that had veered off the road. As they were navigating a curve past the Gaso filling station, their fire engine, bearing the registration number FS 438, got involved in an accident. It is believed that a potential steering lock issue may have been the cause of the accident.
Out of the eight personnel aboard the fire engine, one managed to escape without injury. The remaining members were split between St. Dominic Hospital in Akwatia and the Kade Government Hospital for further treatment. Fortunately, Eastern Regional Fire Service Commander, ACFO Jennifer Naa Yarley Quaye, confirmed that all injured personnel are in stable condition and responding well to treatment.
