Award-winning Nigerian movie producer, Kunle Afolayan has announced that the filming of Season 2 of the acclaimed movie, Anikulapo, will take place in Ghana.
This decision aligns with the National Film Authority’s (NFA) initiative, “Shoot in Ghana”, aimed at establishing Ghana as a prominent hub for movie production.
According to reports from Graphic.com, Mr. Afolayan made this announcement during the Nigeria International Film and TV Summit (NIFS) held in Cannes, France. The summit saw the presence of various film industry experts and media personalities, including the CEO of Ghana’s National Film Authority, Juliet Yaa Asantewaa Asante.
Miss Asante, who facilitated the collaboration, expressed her enthusiasm for the project, emphasizing the potential to strengthen the film relations between Ghana and Nigeria. She highlighted the benefits of deep collaborations and market exploration between the two countries.
Anikulapo, a collaboration between Kunle Afolayan and Netflix, was produced and filmed by renowned cinematographer Jonathan Kovel in 2022. The production took place on 40 acres of land with purpose-built infrastructure, with a vision to develop it into a film village.
The movie has received numerous accolades, notably winning the Overall Best Movie in Africa at the African Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards. The decision to shoot parts of Anikulapo in Ghana is a significant boost for the #Shoot in Ghana# campaign, which aims to promote Ghana as a preferred destination for filmmakers.
With the upcoming filming of Anikulapo in Ghana, the initiative is expected to witness further success and contribute to the growth of the country’s film industry. This collaboration serves as a testament to the increasing partnership between Ghana and Nigeria in the realm of film production.
