Michael Owusu Addo, often known as Sarkodie, has remarked on recent power outages and their impact on healthcare services in the country.

In response to a viral video showing a power outage at Tema General Hospital, he described the situation as one of “misplaced priorities” on the part of those in control.

Following a viral video in which physicians and moms struggle to care for newborns in the dark using phone lights, the Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo-led administration is under mounting criticism.

Sarkodie posted the video on his Instagram story (March 27, 2024), just 24 hours after it went viral, with the description, “The Impact when we misplace priorities.” “We pray for these innocent babies.”

In the most recent footage from the hospital, some women are seen fanning their kids with cloths due to the heat in the wards after the lights went out.

According to GHOne TV in Accra, a newborn died as a result of the facility’s irregular power supply.

“An erratic power outage on Tuesday evening threw the neonatal unit of Tema General Hospital into disarray, resulting in the heartbreaking loss of a newborn,” the station said on social media on March 27, 2024.

“The neonatal ward, which houses newborns requiring critical care, is primarily reliant on energy to power life-saving equipment like oxygen support and emergency care devices. The generator designed to supply backup power to the machine is prone to shutting down.

The power distributor and the energy minister have rejected the Electricity Company of Ghana’s (ECG) request for a power outage timeline.

Minister Matthew Opoku Prempeh’s remark that individuals who want a timeline should create their own has sparked widespread outrage online, despite the ministry’s clarification that the words were misread.
