Yvonne Nelson, in her revealing memoir titled ‘I Am Not Yvonne Nelson,’ discloses a distressing episode where she had to terminate a pregnancy due to the father’s refusal to take responsibility.

According to Nelson, the man involved was a rapper from Tema, and in 2010, he was none other than Sarkodie, the renowned Ghanaian musician and multiple award winner.

In her book, Nelson recounts the emotional turmoil she experienced upon receiving the pregnancy test results while accompanied by her friend Karen.

The news was devastating, as the man responsible for the situation denied his involvement, citing his relationship with another woman. This man was Michael Owusu Addo, known by his stage name Sarkodie.

During that period, Sarkodie was an aspiring musician, navigating the uncertainties of his future. He still lived with his mother and wasn’t prepared to shoulder the responsibilities of fatherhood.

Their relationship, as Nelson clarifies, wasn’t particularly serious, but she was drawn to him due to their shared interest in the music industry.

Chapter 8 of her memoir details Nelson’s attempts to terminate the pregnancy, including seeking help from a colleague who provided her with a concoction. However, despite her efforts, she discovered that the substance had not worked as expected.

Nelson felt compelled to terminate the pregnancy because she had grown up without a father and didn’t want to subject her child to a similar fate.

Regrettably, Nelson succeeded in aborting the pregnancy, a decision she deeply regrets. She reflects on the pain of her own father’s absence in her life and acknowledges the trauma she experienced. In hindsight, she expresses remorse, wishing she could turn back time and make a different choice.

The memoir, ‘I Am Not Yvonne Nelson,’ offers a candid and captivating account of Nelson’s journey to self-discovery, delving into the complexities of her life and the entertainment industry.

The book exposes both the positive and negative aspects of her life, as well as the harsh realities faced by celebrities. The launch of the memoir was attended by notable figures from various sectors, adding to the significance of this intimate and eye-opening narrative.
