Reports emerged earlier in the month that a senior Trump administration official had consented to appear in under oath before the House Select Committee looking into the attack on the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021.

Sarah Matthews, who held the position of deputy press secretary in the Trump White House was subpoenaed by the House select committee looking into the uprising and has agreed to testify at an upcoming hearing.

She was a spokesman for Trump during his failed 2020 presidential campaign. Sarah publicly defended fellow White House staffer, Cassidy Hutchinson after her very revealing and subsequently controversial testimony before the select committee.

Sarah Matthews resignation letter: Why did she resign?

On the evening of January 6, 2021, Matthews announced her resignation, stating that it had been an honor for her to work for the administration of the time’s president, Donald Trump. However, she noted that what she observed had left her very troubled and that the country required a peaceful transition of power.
