Sandy Denny parents: Meet Edna Denny, Neil Denny

Lead vocalist for the British folk rock band Fairport Convention who is English. As “the preeminent British folk-rock singer,” she has been referred to.

Denny joined Fairport Convention in 1968 and remained with them until 1969 after a brief stint with the Strawbs. In 1970, she started the brief-lived band Fotheringay before concentrating on a solo career.

Denny recorded four solo albums between 1971 and 1977: Rendezvous, Like an Old Fashioned Waltz, The North Star Grassman and the Ravens, and Sandy. In 1971, she and Robert Plant collaborated on the song “The Battle of Evermore” for the Led Zeppelin album Led Zeppelin IV.

Denny’s injuries and health problems brought on by alcohol consumption caused his death in 1978 at the age of 31.

Neil and Edna Denny welcomed Denny into the world on January 6, 1947, at Nelson Hospital in Merton Park, London.

Her paternal grandmother spoke Scots Gaelic and sang traditional songs. Her paternal grandfather was from Dundee.

Denny first expressed an interest in singing at a young age, but her strict parents were hesitant to think she could make a profession at it.
