An Accra Circuit Court sentenced a 38-year-old sand winner to two years in prison and hard labor for stealing 37 livestock worth GH₵37,000.00.

Pleading not guilty, Ganiu Munkaila denied helping and abetting criminal activity and theft. He was found guilty and sentenced as a result following a thorough trial.

Thus, the court chaired by Mrs. Afia Owusuaa Appiah found Munkaila guilty of theft and sentenced her to two years in prison with hard labor. Conviction for aiding and abetting was lifted in the interim.

The plaintiff is a businessman and a cattle farmer, according to the prosecutor, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Emmanuel Nyamekye.

The prosecution clarified that Yakubu Usman was employed by the individual who submitted the complaint as a herdsman, and that the defendant oversaw the herdsman’s labor at Kweikrom as a sand winner.

Based on a referral, the complainant trusted the prisoner with his cattle business in 2013. The criminal brought just 21 cows and did not put them in the complainant’s kraal, despite the complainant giving the convict GH₵37,000 to purchase 37 livestock.

Usman was given the task of herding the cattle eight months ago by the prisoner, but he only sent Usman 21 cows instead of the agreed-upon 58. The offender failed to appear for a headcount on May 24, 2020, despite being invited by the plaintiff.

According to the report, on May 30, 2020, the prisoner mobilized Ibrahim, Jael, and one Sakawa, who are presently at large, to rob the herdsman of six calves.

In an effort to conceal his role in the crime, the prosecution claimed that the defendant enlisted the help of some herdsmen in the scheme, told the complainant that the robbers had taken 60 of his cattle, and helped the police apprehend the herdsmen in the region.

Additionally, was stated that prior to the Police organizing an identification parade, the prisoner gave the witness the identities of livestock herders.
