The National Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Sammy Gyamfi, has strongly refuted claims that his party plagiarized policy ideas from the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
In an interview on Joy FM’s Newsfile, Gyamfi accused Denis Miracle Aboagye, a spokesperson for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s campaign, of spreading false information without verifying the facts.
Gyamfi pointed out that the NDC had included the promise of providing free tertiary education for persons with disabilities in their 2020 manifesto.
He questioned why Aboagye would accuse them of stealing the idea when it was already in their manifesto before Bawumia was contesting for President.
Moreover, Gyamfi highlighted the NDC’s “1 million coders” initiative, which aimed to train one million young people in various digital skills through a public-private partnership.
He claimed that the NPP had initially adopted this initiative but changed their language to “train 1 million people in digital skills” after the NDC pointed out the similarities.
Gyamfi emphasized that the NPP’s alteration of terminology did not change the fact that they had taken the idea from the NDC, calling them out for stealing manifesto promises.
He also challenged the NPP to fact-check before making accusations and clarified the NDC’s position on scholarship policies, stating that their approach involved legislative changes to coordinate scholarships and prevent political appointees from benefiting, which he claimed differed from the NPP’s proposals.
As the 2024 elections draw closer, the political parties are engaging in a battle over who has the best policies for the country. Ultimately, the electorate will decide on December 7th who will become the next President.
