Changpeng Zhao, the CEO of Binance, announced on Twitter that his company planned to sell its holdings of FTT, FTX’s cryptocurrency. As part of the sale of its ownership in FTX in 2021, Binance obtained FTT. Given the token’s limited trading volume, any sale by Binance would probably have a disproportionately large effect on its price.
The dispute between Zhao and Bankman-Fried caused a sharp debilitating downward trend in the price of FTT and other major cryptocurrencies.
Due to a liquidity crisis at FTX, Zhao said on November 8, 2022, that Binance and FTX had made a non-binding agreement for Binance to buy FTX.
On Twitter, Zhao added that the company would shortly finish its due diligence and urged all cryptocurrency exchanges to refrain from utilizing tokens as collateral. FTT dropped 80% of its value the day the announcement was made.
