Sam Altman is an American entrepreneur, investor, and computer scientist. He is best known as the former president of Y Combinator, a prominent startup accelerator based in Silicon Valley. Altman was born on April 22, 1985, in Chicago, Illinois.

 

Altman’s involvement with Y Combinator began in 2011 when he and his location-based social networking startup, Loopt, were accepted into the program. After the acquisition of Loopt by Green Dot Corporation in 2012, Altman became a full-time partner at Y Combinator. He quickly rose through the ranks and became the organization’s president in 2014.

 

Under Altman’s leadership, Y Combinator expanded its operations and became one of the most influential startup incubators globally. The program has supported and funded numerous successful companies, including Airbnb, Dropbox, Reddit, DoorDash, and Coinbase.

 

Aside from his work at Y Combinator, Altman is also an angel investor and has made investments in various companies, including OpenAI, Stripe, and Asana. He is known for his insightful blog posts on topics related to entrepreneurship, startups, and technology.
