Salvatore Cordileone was born in San Diego and attended Crawford High School from 1971 to 1974. He later attended San Diego State University for a year before entering the University of San Diego.

Cordileone pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of reckless driving. He was given three years’ probation and ordered to pay a fine. In addition, he was also required to attend a Mothers Against Drunk Driving victim-impact panel as well as a three-month first conviction program through the California Department of Motor Vehicles.
