In Mexico, she made her acting debut in the telenovela Teresa (1989–1991) and the romantic drama El Callejón de los Milagros (1995), for which she was nominated for an Ariel Award. With roles in movies like Desperado (1995), From Dusk Till Dawn (1996), Wild Wild West (1999), and Dogma, she quickly made a name for herself in Hollywood (1999).

Hayek became the first Mexican actress to receive an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress in the biographical film Frida (2002), which she also produced. Hayek’s directing, producing and acting career on television has won her four Emmy Awards nominations.
